Hypnos Contract Beds, continues its award-winning success story and grows its global footprint with its latest project, the new boutique hotel, TORTUE, in Hamburg, Germany.

Situated centrally in an 19th century listed landmark building, Hotel TORTUE, taking its name from the French word for "turtle", will open its doors in spring 2018 as part of the Design Hotels™ Group, having undergone extensive refurbishment and development by David Chipperfield Architects and the Hamburg-based Stephen Williams Associates.

Anne-Marie Bauer, Hotel Director at Tortue, comments: “We wanted to create an international flair that is cosy and modern at the same time – ‘lived urbanity’. Guests should find themselves in a world of their own, celebrating one thing above all else, the time to sharpen the senses for the essentials and the details and to immerse oneself in life and to discover new perspectives. Time to relax and enjoy.”

Amsterdam based Interior Designer, Kate Hume, well-known for her model apartments in the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, was commissioned with the interior design of the 126 rooms – a combination of 114 bedrooms, eight suites and four long stay apartments. Briefed with creating an exceptional hospitality experience, Kate opted for warm and intimate guest bedrooms, all distinguished with three different colour schemes.Knowing that sleep is one of the key elements in delivering an exceptional guest experience, leading to repeat business and positive reviews for the hotelier, and having worked with Hypnos on previous interior design projects, it was only natural for her to recommend Hypnos as the hotel’s bed supplier in 2016.

Kate comments: “When designing the bedrooms, it was clear that luxury and comfort was paramount from the very onset and the hotel owners recognised that luxurious, comfortable beds are the key ingredient in providing an excellent sleep experience and generating customer satisfaction. Due to Hypnos’ outstanding service and excellent products provided for many of my other design projects, I immediately knew that Hypnos Contract Beds was the right partner for this boutique hotel.”

Hypnos’ specialist hospitality team worked closely with Kate Hume over several months to provide bespoke beds that suited the vision of both Kate Hume and that of the hotel owners. By carrying out a full consultation, taking into account all design details required, preferred comfort level, size and expected guest usage for each of the rooms, Hypnos’ dedicated project management team made sure that expectations were exceeded. Advice and guidance was offered on every aspect of bed specification to ensure the perfect solution was created.

Supremely comfortable, luxury pocket sprung Cranborne mattresses in a Zip&Link configuration were specified for all rooms. Zip&Link beds allow housekeeping staff to quickly adjust the rooms to cater for single, double or twin occupancy. Combining 800 individual pocketed springs with natural comfort and blended layers, the Cranborne mattress is specifically designed and built to withstand the rigours of hotel usage and to provide excellent body support for guests, so they can enjoy an incredibly comfortable night’s.

Additional removable Tranquillity De Luxe Toppers were also added to enhance the sleep comfort, whilst providing a practical solution for housekeeping allowing them to tailor the comfort level for each guest. Luxury waterproof mattress protectors completed the design of the perfect sleep set and provided a practical, hygienic layer, in order to protect and maximise the lifetime of the mattress.

In order to supply durable, firm support to the mattresses, 126 ClassicBase™ bases with EasyLink™ linking bars were specified. And as the finishing touch, elegantly curved, wall mounted Florence headboards were added to create a focal point in each bedroom. To complement each of the four bedroom colour schemes perfectly, the Florence headboards and ClassicBase™ bases were covered with one of three stylish and sumptuous fabrics; Panaz Highland Indigo, Panaz Highland Graphite and Panaz Highland Silver.

Amy Collier, International Sales Executive at Hypnos Contract Beds, comments: “We were delighted to be asked to contribute to such an innovative, design led hotel development. The concept is really exciting and we can’t wait to see the vision be brought to life when the TORTUE opens this spring.”
