Sustainability

Comfort With Integrity

As a pioneer in sustainable and ethical bedmaking, we believe sleep shouldn’t cost the Earth.

Our approach has always been to make a positive environmental and social impact, investing in responsible innovation, nature-based circular designs and initiatives to combat climate change.

With over a century of expertise in handcrafting beds and delivering natural comfort, Hypnos’ mattresses and sleep experience are designed to help improve personal health and quality of life.

From the use of renewable natural resources and carbon offsetting programmes, to supporting worthy charities, local schools and nurturing future talent, sustainability and corporate social responsibility is completely embedded within our business.

Protect And Regenerate Nature

We only use natural and sustainable materials, including wool, cotton, flax and hemp, working in partnership with farmers to ensure materials are certified and traceable to their origins.

In a first of its kind for the bed industry, Hypnos has worked with Red Tractor’s assured farms to source completely traceable and certified British Wool. We also work with the Better Cotton Initiative and CottonConnect to ensure traceability with our cotton supply chain.

Hypnos' workshops have achieved FSC® and PEFC forestry certification and we are committed to implementing and maintaining the chain of custody requirements in accordance with the required standards. Our mattresses have been free of chemical-based foams and have been 100% recyclable for over 12 years, and all new mattress designs also include a FR chemical free sleeping surface.

A Legacy Of Positive Action

Over the last decade, we’ve undergone a comprehensive sustainability and decarbonisation journey which led to us becoming the first carbon neutral bedmaker in the world and compliant with PAS2060 standards. In fact, we’re the only bed manufacturer to have held this prestigious title since 2011, having offset a total of 10,294 tonnes of CO2e, including 744 tonnes in 2020/21 alone.

From the use of renewable natural resources and carbon offsetting programmes, to collaborating with our partner the Eden Project to help support local charities, schools and community projects that together help tackle poverty, biodiversity loss, conservation and regeneration, our environmental and Force for Good strategies put nature, people and planet first.

Indeed, it’s sustainable and social actions such as this, paired with our long-held, ongoing ethical commitment, that has meant we’ve been awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development.

"We’re sustainable in every part of our business and we aim to help set the sustainability standards for the bed industry."
