Internationally renowned specialist hospitality bed supplier, Hypnos Contract Beds, continues its award-winning success with its latest project, supplying 23 king and super king mattresses for new, luxury floating boutique hotel, Fingal, in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Due to be permanently berthed in Edinburgh’s historic Port of Leith, Fingal, a former Northern Lighthouse Board ship, officially opened its doors in January 2019, following a £5 million investment by the Royal Yacht Britannia’s trading company, Royal Yacht Enterprises.

The 237ft long ship hotel will provide the ultimate in luxury, with 23 beautifully styled cabins, all named after Stevenson lighthouses, inspired by Fingal’s rich maritime heritage. With a cabin for every occasion, guest will be able to choose from 10 classic cabins, eight luxury cabins, four duplex cabins and one suite.

Hypnos’ specialist hospitality team has worked closely with the Fingal team, who required mattresses that were both luxurious and of supreme comfort for all its guestrooms. 23 sumptuous Ashbourne king, super king and Zip&Link mattresses were specified, to allow the rooms to be quickly adjusted to cater for double or twin occupancy. Waterproof mattress protectors completed the design, whilst providing a practical, hygienic layer that will help to maximise the lifetime of the mattress and ensure Fingal obtains maximum return from its investment in these high-quality sleep solutions.

Featuring an abundance of soft and sumptuous natural wool fillings, the Ashbourne mattress is specifically designed for hoteliers looking to provide their guests with a more natural sleep solution and unrivalled sleep experience. Its generous layers of natural wool fillings trap air to provide the sleeper with insulation during colder weather, but also transport away moisture to help them cool down during the hotter months.

Chris Ward, Group Marketing Director at Hypnos, comments: “We are delighted to have worked with Fingal on this one of a kind project. At Hypnos we take pride in working with clients to design and produce the most comfortable beds tailored to their individual requirements. In this case sumptuous, quality mattresses that offer the best sleep experience and enhance the guest’s well-being and satisfaction, were just what was needed. With its exceptional design and history, Fingal is set to become a landmark destination in Scotland and we are proud to be part of this historic hospitality project.”

The hotel will also provide an exciting new events venue for Edinburgh, with a spectacular double height ballroom that seats 80 guests and features a moveable skylight.

Andrew Thomson, head of hospitality and events at Fingal, adds: “Fingal is like no other in Scotland. It is a privilege to take this historic ship and create a new, exciting and world-class addition to the Scottish tourism landscape. The craftmanship and design, inspired by Fingal’s provenance and heritage, coupled with the best of Scotland’s larder will ensure our guests’ experience on Fingal is truly memorable.”

The Hypnos brand is synonymous with quality, luxury and supreme comfort, providing hoteliers with the confidence that the products will ensure their guests get a great night’s sleep. What’s more, the company is reinforced by a rich heritage and royal warrant which has been appointed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. It is this reputation for superior quality and expertise in the UK bed market that has allowed Hypnos to cement this prestigious reputation internationally too.
