PROTECT AND REGENERATE NATURE

For our first Sustainability Scorecard assessment under EcoVadis, we’ve been rated silver, putting us in the top 15% of EcoVadis companies for our sustainable practices. In fact, we were just two percentile points away from a gold medal – something to aim for next time. With EcoVadis being recognised globally and used by some of the world’s biggest companies across all sectors, we are delighted to achieve silver with our first ever assessment. We’ve done particularly well in our Environment score, recording 80 out of 100, with EcoVadis highlighting strengths such as our targets and reporting on GHGs, our end-of-life policy, use of bio-based materials and purchase of renewable energy.

Importantly, the scorecard also identifies ways in which we could improve. Acting on these areas will help us to better our score next time round as we work towards gold and platinum.

ABOUT ECOVADIS

Since founding in 2007, EcoVadis has grown into a globally trusted provider of business sustainability ratings with a network of more than 130,000 rated companies. The EcoVadis sustainability assessment methodology is at the heart of its Ratings and Scorecards and is an evaluation of how well a company has integrated the principles of Sustainability/CSR into their business and management system.

Built on international sustainability standards, including the Global Reporting Initiative, the United National Global Compact, and ISO 2600, the EcoVadis methodology helps a business to assess its sustainability actions in four key areas: environment, ethics, labour and human rights and sustainable procurement.

A LEGACY OF POSITIVE ACTIOn

We have undergone a comprehensive sustainability and decarbonisation journey which led to us becoming the first carbon neutral bedmaker in the world. In fact, we’re the only bed manufacturer to have held this prestigious title since 2011, having offset a total of 10,294 tonnes of CO2e, including 744 tonnes in 2020/21 alone.

From the use of renewable natural resources and carbon offsetting programmes, to collaborating with our partner the Eden Project to help support local charities, schools and community projects that together help tackle poverty, biodiversity loss, conservation and regeneration, our environmental and Force for Good strategies put nature, people and planet first.

Indeed, it’s sustainable and social actions such as this, paired with our long-held, ongoing ethical commitment, that has meant we’ve been awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development.
